Pat Cuervo, a temporary worker with the Collier County Public Utilities Division of Solid Waste, tosses a light fixture into a recycle bin at the North Collier Recycling Drop-Off Center in North Naples on Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday was "America Recycles Day", and Collier County officials took the opportunity to showcase the new drop-off facility for Collier County residents to recycle electronics, household hazardous waste and chemicals, plastics, batteries, cardboard, fluorescent light bulbs, cooking oil and propane tanks to name a few. Officials said because of recycling efforts taken by the county and embraced by the public, Collier County has gone from burying 460,000 tons of waste ten years ago to 188,000 tons of waste buried last year.
