Southwest Florida’s Marco Island has been ranked as the top U.S. island according to TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice awards.

The travel site calls Marco Island “the jewel of Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands.” TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel site, known for traveler user reviews and trip planning.

The Collier County island beat out Hawaiian islands, Maui and Kauai as well as the infamous Key West.

Marco also ranked fourth in TripAdvisors world's best islands.

Anna Maria Island, another southwest Florida island was listed as No. 3 in the U.S.

This is absurd. Marco is quaint and fun in its own little way, but come on.. Maui? Give me a break.

nowhere to park. I was at the Marco bridge on Monday kayaking and a couple of tourists asked me where the closest beach was. I recommended downtown because trying to find parking on Marco is impossible.

So for all those dissing their own home area when it gets national recognition which can only help the economy of the region--and who just do not appreciate what they have----John Boehner figured it out a month earlier---a great place for him to work on his tan, and mingle with those who share his minority viewpoints on National issues..

For the record, I really like Marco, own property there, (okay, only one week--lol), and worked there for a decade. The opportunities are there for people of all interests and economic standing.
