PUNTA GORDA — The FAA is investigating a plane crash that happened at the Punta Gorda Airport on Saturday night.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, a single-engine experimental plane started having engine problems, ran out of gas and had to make an emergency landing.
The plane landed in a grassy area, nearly missing a fence in its path.

Ran out of gas, huh? Probably sue the manufacturer for not making a large enough gas tank. And, of course, the airport for letting him take off. He was a victim.

The term "experimental aircraft" is also sometimes used to refer to aircraft flown with an "Experimental" category airworthiness certificate. In the U.S. this includes most homebuilt aircraft; many of which are based on conventional designs and hence are experimental only in name.
The pilot in command was most definitely NOT a victim.

Running out of gas does lead to engine problems. Good investigative work NDN.
