Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a Lehigh Acres man who didn't show up Wednesday for the second day of his trial in Collier County on charges of impregnating an 11-year-old girl.
Officials are searching for Jean Schamma Leandre, 36, who faces two charges of sexual battery that carry a potential life sentence. Out on $200,000 bond since February 2010, Leandre had never missed a court hearing, his lawyer James Zonas said, but he couldn't be found Wednesday.
"We don't really have any idea what's going through his head, but the last contact with him was his family during the late night," Zonas said.
Jury selection started Tuesday and was scheduled to stretch into Wednesday. A large pool of jurors had been called for the case, with each side allowed to strike 10 potential jurors, Zonas said.
Leandre was arrested in October 2009, accused of having sex more than 10 times during the course of several years with the girl, who said she was first raped at age 5 or 6, a criminal complaint said. The girl became pregnant at age 11 and subsequently had an abortion, the complaint said.
The girl also told deputies she'd been raped at age 11 by an East Naples man, Constantin Caporal, 63. The Daily News is withholding the girl's relation to Caporal and Leandre to protect her identity.
In a phone call overheard by investigators, Caporal admitted to twice having sex with the girl, an arrest report said. Caporal pleaded no contest to four sexual battery charges in February 2011 and is serving a 30-year prison sentence.
Zonas said he's optimistic Leandre will soon turn himself in or be found by law enforcement officials.
"The system works really well, and this stuff can happen," Zonas said. "I anticipate making contact with him in the next couple of days."

$200,000 Bail. Where did he get that kind of money? Anyway...no amount should have freed him.

Wow, what a "great" example of what is wrong with society. Just think what might have been if we just took some conservative steps in correcting the situation. The possibilities are limitless.
Camps, plantations, jails are just a few that come to mind. Even Planned Parenthood might have been a consideration? (in desperation of course)

Why is there bail for a scum bag like this?Especially when he is from a place where it is acceptable to do such things.maybe they should have stashed pot on him so he could be held w/o bail! This is why we must start teaching people from third world countries to accept American culture not embrace there own(which it is okay to do horrible things like this and kill your family because they have demons in them)hint chech Haiti for the lovely human being!

200k bond means they needed to come up with 20k - usually they can add a lien to a home to cover it.

Greed is the answer. Why the court places the bail system its just a way to make money. This guy should not be allowed to post bill as he is an illegal and a high risk to fled the country just the same way he came here. WTF is wrong with court system here?? All those illegal criminals should be deported immediately and send to their country jail.

Why is WhiskerBiscut's comment unacceptable in our culture? Why are you afraid (or don't want to hear the truth)? I don't undestand your comment. I think he was 'just sayin'...Seems we must get used to 'immigrants' social norms' here as we are flooded here in SWFL with immigrants and there are out in society...

How would he have even $20K equity in a home? There's not a homeowner with the last name Leandre that owns an actual home in Lehigh. They all own lots worth about $2K.

After all, the Republicants say it's a gift from Gawd-DUH.
What a bunch of tards.
Tarponfly49 writes:
The $20k would be required to be paid in cash, the state also would require a house as collateral (required on any bond over $50k). This is all, assuming of course, that the bondsman obeyed Florida statues...but then again, if they don't find him, paying that $200,000 would like put them out of business.

I don't think any equity is needed, they just add a junior lien to the property, otherwise establishing equity via a certified appraisal would be pretty complicated for the purpose of posting a bond. And anyone can post a bond so although the creep and no one by his name owns a home in the area, it could be anyone. I would think land could be used as well.

Bail? Really? For what he did? We as a country are WAY too lenient! People scratch their heads and say......whats going on?why does this happen? BECAUSE there is no real punishment!! No deterrent!
THAT IS WHY!!!

Thank you. That is a fact. It occurs in all cultures. And was a common occurrence in backwoods white culture for a century in the South including Florida. Marriage of 12 and 13 year old girls by much older men was accepted and encouraged also...as if a young under aged girl could give real consent.

He definately has a "past" following. A judge set bond of $200,000! That is mistake number 1. Where did he get the $20,000 to get out? That is mistake #2. If he is looking at life in prison, mistake #3 was letting him out of jail period! NO amount of money should have freed him. Come on people, open your eyes and take these kinds of people totally out of circulation!
