A 78-year-old North Naples man is accused of threatening his caregiver with a shotgun.
Howard Marcotte, of the 8100 block of Wilshire Lakes Boulevard, was arrested Thursday by Collier deputies at home.
According to an arrest report, when deputies arrived on scene they spoke with the victim, who told them he takes care of Marcotte and lives in a room in the house, while getting paid a weekly salary for taking care of the property.
The victim told deputies that Marcotte came out of his room holding a shotgun and began yelling at him that he was going to kill him.
According to reports, the victim then fled to the garage to get away from Marcotte.
The victim also told deputies that this was not the first incident where Marcotte became violent.
Earlier in the week, Marcotte was yelling profanities about cops, attorneys, and president Obama, and stated he was going to shoot them all, the victim said.
At the time the victim then removed Marcotte’s ammunition he had in his bedroom and hid it elsewhere, according to reports.
Marcotte agreed to exit the home when deputies made a phone call to him, deputies said.
While being arrested, Marcotte punched one deputy in the face, but was then taken to the ground and handcuffed, according to reports.
Marcotte faces felony charges of aggravated assault and battery on law enforcement officer.

No charges for threatening the guy with the gun....only for hitting the cop? Figures!

10 year minimum-mandatory for using a firearm in the commission of a crime. When he gets out I hope he can find a job.

Those reported 'symptoms' are the beginnings of dementia.
Time for this one to go to the home. He'll get progressively worse over time; needs some family members to lend a hand.
Too bad we don't have a universal health care option in this country eh?

▲▲▲ MORE proof that the GOP has a long history of underfunding and/or neglecting education. And it's for a reason: the less educated the voter, the more likely he or she is to vote Republican. That's why so many middle or lower-middle class whites vote against their own economic interests. They always fall for the flag-waving, bible-thumping distortion of the groups funded by the tycoons who will forever abuse them. It's a fact as old as our democracy.

Yes, good thing we don't have universal health care, because this man would probably be euthanized.

I was thinking the beginning of dementia as well. They tend to get violent and rant and rave about whatever. It's not them, it's the illness.

It's time to get this person on neurontin. It calms down dementia patients. Where is his family? Do they not care about his well-being?

Sad, this guy has money and can afford a care giver; scarey thing is there are many who can't get any help at all. Hoping he is a Veteran and can be placed in a safe place for himself and those around him. Buuuuut, I think I've seen him at the corner of Pine Ridge and 41 before. I'll have to check copies of the photo's I sent to the F.B.I., D.H.S., and F.D.L.E.!!!

Hey dummy that's what the aggravated assault charge is for...threatening the caregiver. But of course being the idiot that you are it's all about hating the cop's right? Maybe the old man will take a swing at you one day and knock some sense into that liberal no good brain of yours. Figures!

Now this is a sad story which ended in an entirely preventable arrest.
Wouldn't things have been different, had the accused retained in advance the peculiar talents of Girard R. Visconti, George Allen Wilson, II of Cheffy, "We Make Housecalls!", Passidomo, 'dirty divorce lawyer' Mark V. Silverio, and "Perjury Pat" Stoye?
Didn't they demonstrate, to our full and enduring satisfaction, the fine art of shifting guilt - 'turning everything around' as the cops say?
Had the accused acted with foresight and first retained the above team, wouldn't it be the innocent caregiver who'd be convicted without trial, perhaps by Judge Lawrence D. Martin?
Isn't it true that it's always wise to hire legal talent prior to committing crimes, when you don't need them, rather than later when you surely do?

How come you wont answer a question? Where does it say in the article does it say he has dementia ? If everyone in Vietnam was like you I see how we lost the war. You are unable to answer a question, or answer a message i send you. Coward.

Judging by these posts, this poor old man is obviously not the only one who needs help.
Imagine growing old - your friends are dead - your world closes in around you. You have to depend on a stranger to take care of you and take you places (if you're lucky you can afford a stranger to take care of you and take you places) - there is no public transportation. You have become so crotchety that your own family wants nothing to do with you. You're in pain from some ailment due to old age. All you do all day is watch fear mongering on TV and think about how unfair the world is - and ungrateful. And how there is a black man in the white house.
But you have a gun ... which we all know is our constitutional right ... and you're not afraid to use it.
Like so many of our fellow citizens who run afoul of the law, this is really not a case for the criminal law system. He will never understand why what he did was wrong. The man needs compassion. He is one of our elders, after all.

Then go bond him out of jail and let him live with you. I am sure you can give him all the love and compassion he needs. Just remember to hide all the sharp kitchen utensils as well as his guns. You may want to also sleep with one eye open and the door locked.
