LEHIGH ACRES — A motorcyclist died Tuesday afternoon after rear-ending a United Parcel Service delivery truck at the intersection of Gunnery Road and Fourth Street Southwest in Lehigh Acres.
Gerardo "Jerry" Perez Jr., 23, of Lehigh Acres died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 2:33 p.m., according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The UPS truck was traveling north on Gunnery Road, approaching Fourth Street Southwest when a 2003 Kawasaki hit the rear of the truck. The preliminary investigation revealed speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, the Sheriff’s Office reports.
The driver of the UPS truck was not injured in the crash.

Very sad someone lost their son or their father or their friend today and the people that post comments are calling each other names.. Obviously all of you are losers with no respect for anyone. Prayers to the family and friends who lost so much today.

Sorry for the loss of life, but all I can say is it's pretty bad when they have to use your MUG shot for the article on your death.

I can't believe people now in days someone just lost their life and so young! I hope your next and very painful one too!!! Sorry for the family for your lost :( And its very sad that Naples Daily had to use his mug shot what you couldn't use his driver license?
ke4ktz writes:
That tells you a lot about what his life was like.

"Speed was a factor." OK, so as a good human being I know I should feel sorry, but I don't. How many times I find myself driving along at the posted rate of speed and some idiot in a crotch rocket flies by me. Unfotunately, I just can't find it in my heart to feel sorry. I feel bad for any family left behind, to be sure, but I find it difficult to feel sorry and lament the loss of life over stupidity.
And don't even get me started over the use of a mug shot. If you've got a mug shot, like a previous poster stated, "thinning of the herd."

I would first off like to offer my sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Perez.
Second, I would like to say how incredibly disrespectful it was to use his mug shot from a prior arrest in a story ABOUT HIS DEATH! We are all human beings and we all make mistakes, however, when someone dies in a tragic accident, the last thing you should do is to smear his name around town that he has a prior arrest record. Mr. Perez has paid his debt to society and does not deserve this belittlement and furthermore, his family is suffering enough and does not need insult added to injury! Naples Daily News, you should be ASHAMED!

NDN is the best...
Wonder if they'll use the mug shot in the obit?

I agree. Shame on you NDN for using that photo. You guys are truly becoming a real gossip sheet anymore.
My condolences to the family.

They should outlaw these types of bikes. To many inexperienced riders can go in a store and buy one of these "crotch rockets" and they have no idea how to handle it. This type of bike belongs on a track. Keep selling them and more deaths will be on the way!
northnaples61 writes:
A truly classless, tasteless act by NDN. Better to show no picture than a mug shot. A man is dead, shame on you NDN! Why did you use a mug shot, to stir up nasty comments, you knew it would, you, NDN, are PATHETIC!!
northnaples61 writes:
What a cruel comment. Everyone who gets arrested gets a mug shot, it is still available if they are found not guilty. And I would hardly call you a "good human being" far from it. You have no regard for human life.

UPS drivers are the worst offenders for speeding. They drive like wild men trying to get their quota of packages delivered.
Are they sure UPS didn't do something, like brake fast, as they are always speeding, to cause this? Very sad.

Is this the second motorcycle accident to occur in 24 hours in Lehigh Acres? The place is a magnet for disaster.

Natural selection at work. Anyone who rear-ends a UPS truck (of all things)is a dumb rear and deserves to be benched. To me, it's disrespectful to rear-end a delivery truck. Just think of all those packages that were delays in getting delivered? Mo-ron low life scum...
Micheal_Hunt writes:
Way to be uninformed. UPS drivers are recognized time and time again as some of the safest drivers in the world. And what is a quota of packages? They have X number of packages for a day and they go till it's done. What's on the truck is on the truck, they cant magically make more packages.
Also, lets say the UPS driver slammed on his brakes JUST because he felt like it. Still this dudes fault because he was following too closely and/or speeding.

The repub did a great job of that with 'W' at the controls...can't wait for the obit. It'll be short. Rip-off artist, war-monger, Texas nitwit, Yaleefailee who almost killed our nation. Thank goodness for the change.

It's so nice that the NDN allows trolls to post under many names, even on stories involving deceased people.
Very classy this rag is.

The Keyboard Klan man strikes again. Every time I read your comments, "Dueling Banjos" plays in my head. Are your eyes really beady and close together? Just wondering... I wonder what would happen if you stopped blaming every other race for your failures and manned up. Your wee little head would probably explode.
To the family of the young man who lost his life, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Abiit nemine salutato, RIP Jerry.

Now that's a criminal mentality.
Our freedoms are eroding continually and the freedom of speech given to us on this blog will be curtailed dramatically soon enough. The inane bloggers do not help ratings.
We as a society will again be reduced to our lowest form of genetic outcome since the internet is now so easily accessed by the uncivilized.
Instead of passwords for these blogs, NDN should just ask simple questions about math or history or just the article and that would eliminate most.
Rofllilly writes:
He did have a drivers license. The News Press will do anything to attract an audience to keep their television alive. I miss you Jerry RIP

Low life scum? Take a look at yourself, you critical idiot. It's called living a little and that exactly how he lived life. Take your remarks and shove it up your a--, because by the looks of your heartless and IDIOTIC words, you're going straight to hell. Caring more about packages than a human's life? Did you grow up as an ugly child with neglect? Probably.. Have a good day and think before you criticize next time.
Rofllilly writes:
The UPS man was making a left turn and was suppose to yield to Gerardo but cut him off.
Also, I might add that UPS drivers routes are made to make only right turns.
