Air conditioner thieves strike at Calusa Nature Center

— Air conditioning thieves struck at the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium, leaving them with five dismantled units.

Officers said the five units were stripped of their coils, copper pipes and wiring.

The theft was reported to have occurred between 12 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. on Sunday.

According to a Fort Myers police report, the damage done to the units left them beyond repair.

The units were said to be Rheem and Trane air conditioners, valued at a total of $50,000.

The not-for-profit, environmental education organization is located at 3450 Ortiz Avenue and is open Monday thru Sunday for visitors.
